This article could very easily been called 'How to upgrade your HD'

When the hard drive failed mount the partition that was keeping our web site, I was in scramble mode trying to salvage the data files that made up the site.

The server that this site is running on a multipurpose appliance that is used for a number of different functions on my home network and loosing data was not something I really wanted to do.

The problem was how to retrived as many files from the failing hard drive before all access was completely lost.

After quite a bit of research, I ended up using a tool I already had, but did not know I had.
