So you want to post an article or news item to our web site.  Congratualtions, and Welcome to online publishing!!!

This is a short lesson in how to post a Article for News, NEIIP School or other sections here on our site.

It is suprisingly easy to post your own topics and upload your pictures to this site.

We hope you find this informative and easy to understand.

First you will need to be a registered user that has had their account escalated to the IUEC Local 139 memberhip group by one of the Administrators.

  • Log in as you normally would.  You should now see a User Menu listed under the Main Menu.
  • Click on the "Submit News" link or other catagory.  This will open up an editor window for you.
  • Type in the name of your Article in the Title box.
  • Select a category where you want to see the article listed when it is published.
  • Now you will see two editor windows.  One above the other. The top window is the 'teaser' window.  On the main News and article screens only the text in the top box is displayed.  So you want to write something in here that will let the user know whether to click on the "Read More..." link to read the remainder of the article.
  • Try to keep this top box limited to a single paragraph or to one or two sentences.  Ideally, this section should be short as it is the article preview window when the article is published to the front page.
  • If it is a Very short Article or News Flash you can leave the lower editor box empty.
  • In the lower editor box  Type or paste in the remainder of your article text.
  • If you wish to include a photo or image, click on where you want the image to be located in the story, then click on the image icon below the current editor window.  Upload your image and you should be good to go.  Now be careful.  Most digital cameras make images that are extremely large in dimensions and file size.  You should limit your images to no larger than about 200x200 pixels and less than 100 Kb in size.  There is no absolute specific size you should be trying to create.  We are just trying to keep the size of the image small enough to that it will fit inside the availabe space on the screen.  Plus not make it so large that it takes forever to download and view.  Send the file to me and I will convert it for you if you are having difficulty with this.
  • If you want to include some hyperlinks within your story, first highlight the section of text where the hyperlink should start and end, then click on the hyperlink button in the bottom tray of the editor window your working in.  Type or paste the URL into the URL line and click OK.
  • When your satisfied with your article, click the save button.  If you decide against publishing that article, click the cancel button and your work is deleted.
  • Now depending on whether you are also designated as a Publisher or not, you can publish this article by setting the "State" from Unpublished to Published and setting the Access Level to Public, Registered or Special in the settings tabs down below the second editor window.
  • Published - makes the article "live" as soon as you click save.
  • Unpublished - Queues the article for posting by a Publisher member or one of the Administrators once they review it and authorize it to become public.
  • Access level Public - Sets your article to be available to anyone visiting the site.
  • Access level Registered - Sets your article to be available only to registered users who log on (includes those users not marked as IUEC Local 139 Membership group).
  • Access level Member - Sets your article to be available only to IUEC Local 139 Members.

And that is about it.

Make sure you click "Save" when your done or all your work will be lost.

We hope you find this a useful and exciting tool.

enjoy.
